"The Milan Miracle" took place on April 16, 2007, during an episode of WWE Monday Night Raw from Milan, Italy.

Santino Marella, a Canadian professional wrestler of Italian descent, was invited from the audience by then-Raw General Manager, Mr. McMahon, who was looking for a local talent to face Umaga, a dominant Samoan wrestler who was the reigning Intercontinental Champion at that time.

Marella, who was not an established WWE wrestler, answered the challenge and entered the ring to face Umaga. In a surprising turn of events, Marella managed to score an upset victory over Umaga with a roll-up pin, winning the Intercontinental Championship in his WWE debut.

This unexpected and dramatic win was dubbed "the Milan Miracle" due to Marella's Italian heritage and the unexpected nature of the victory.

He would go on to have a successful career in WWE, known for his comedic and charismatic personality, and became a fan favorite.
